What we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, and how to make us stop. Written to be read rather than to be survived.

2. The short version

The short version

We collect as little as possible. We use cookies for advertising and analytics. We do not sell your personal data. You can ask us to delete anything we hold about you at any time, and we will.

3. What we collect

Depending on how you use the site, we may collect:

  • Newsletter details — the email address you give us when you subscribe to the Sunday Letter, plus the date and IP address of the consent, which we are required to keep as a record.
  • Messages you send us — the name, email address and content of any enquiry you submit through the contact form.
  • Technical data — IP address, browser type, device type, operating system, referring page and pages viewed, collected by our analytics provider.
  • Advertising data — cookie identifiers and inferred interests, set by our advertising partners as described below.

We do not collect special category data, and we do not ask for or store payment details on this site.

4. Cookies and similar technologies

Cookies are small text files placed on your device. We use them for three purposes: keeping the site working (strictly necessary), measuring which recipes are read (analytics) and serving advertising (marketing).

Strictly necessary cookies do not require consent. Analytics and advertising cookies are set only after you give consent through the banner shown on your first visit. You can change your choice at any time from the link in the footer, and you can clear cookies through your browser settings.

5. Advertising and third parties

This site displays advertising supplied by third-party networks, including Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.

Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and other sites on the internet. You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings, or opt out of third-party vendor cookies by visiting aboutads.info. Where required by law, we ask for consent before any personalised advertising cookie is set.

Advertising is labelled as advertising and is never placed within the ingredients or method of a recipe.

6. Analytics

We use an analytics service to understand which recipes are useful. The data is aggregated and never used to identify you personally. IP addresses are anonymised where the provider supports it, and analytics cookies are only set with your consent.

7. How long we keep things

Newsletter records are kept until you unsubscribe, plus a short period afterwards to honour the unsubscribe. Contact form messages are kept for 24 months. Consent records are kept for as long as we are required to be able to demonstrate consent. Analytics data is retained in aggregated form for 26 months.

8. Your rights

If you are in the UK, the EEA or a jurisdiction with comparable law, you have the right to:

  • be told what we hold about you and receive a copy of it
  • have inaccurate data corrected
  • have your data erased
  • restrict or object to how we use it
  • receive your data in a portable format
  • withdraw consent at any time, without affecting processing that already happened

To exercise any of these, email privacy@jzko.site. We will respond within one month. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority — in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office.

9. Children

This site is not directed at children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

10. International transfers

Some of our service providers operate outside the UK and EEA. Where personal data is transferred internationally, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or Standard Contractual Clauses.

11. Changes to this policy

When we change this policy we update the date at the top of the page and, for material changes, note the change in the Sunday Letter.
